Discover Disney's New Lightning Lane System: What You Need to Know!

Have you heard? Magical Moms Travel Started a new podcast earlier this year! In this episode on our podcast, we dive into the latest changes from Disney: the new Lightning Lane system that’s set to replace Genie+. Disney always keeps us on our toes with new updates, and this one is no exception. Here’s everything you need to know to navigate these changes and make the most of your Disney trip! Be sure to tune in!

What is a Lightning Lane?

Starting July 24, 2024, the Lightning Lane Multi-Pass will replace Disney Genie+ service, and the Lightning Lane Single Pass will replace individual “à la carte” Lightning Lane entries.

Lightning Lane Multi-Pass:

  • Allows you to save time waiting in line by selecting a return time window for attractions.

  • Available at more than 40 attractions and experiences throughout Disney World.

  • Note: It does not include the top 5 newest or most popular attractions, which are available through a Lightning Lane Single Pass.

Lightning Lane Single Pass:

  • Save time in line with a pass for the most in-demand attractions not included in the Multi-Pass.

  • You can purchase up to 2 single passes per day, subject to availability.

How Does It Work Exactly?

When you purchase a Multi-Pass, you can:

  • Plan ahead and choose up to 3 Multi-Pass experiences and arrival windows in a theme park.

  • Once you’re in the park and enjoy your first Multi-Pass experience, you may be able to make an additional selection (subject to availability).

  • Enjoy photo perks with digital downloads of select attraction photos and videos captured by Disney PhotoPass Service.

Pre-planning is a significant advantage. You can select attractions up to 7 days before resort check-in for Disney resort guests and up to 3 days for non-resort guests. This change brings back some of the benefits of the old FastPass+ system, now as a paid service.

Tips for Using Lightning Lane

Know Your Family:

  • Think about your daily schedule and plan your attraction windows accordingly to save time and avoid unnecessary running around.

Make a List of Priorities and Have a Plan B:

  • Create a priority list for each park day and have a backup plan in case your top choices aren’t available. Secure at least one attraction early in your day to maximize your Lightning Lane benefits.

Grab Tier 1 Attractions First but Be Flexible:

  • Tier 1 attractions sell out fast, so prioritize them when your pre-planning window opens. If the available time isn’t ideal, grab it anyway and try to modify it later.

FAQs

Can you book more than 3 attractions? Yes, on the day of your park visit, once you redeem a Lightning Lane Multi-Pass selection, you can check availability for another Multi-Pass experience.

Can I use a Multi-Pass and a Single Pass on the same day? Yes, you can have up to 5 attractions saved: 3 from the Multi-Pass purchase and up to 2 single attraction passes.

After I purchase Lightning Lane passes, can I modify my selections? Yes, subject to availability. You can modify selections to remove or change participants.

How does park hopping work with the Multi-Pass? On the day of your visit, once you scan into your first attraction, you can choose a Lightning Lane Multi-Pass experience in a different park.
