Rock the Universe at Universal Orlando: A Must-Know Guide for Families
Rock the Universe is Florida’s biggest Christian music festival, bringing together incredible artists, powerful worship experiences, and all the thrills of Universal Orlando in one unforgettable weekend. If you're planning to attend with kids or teens, having a game plan is key to making the night stress-free and fun. Here’s everything you need to know about the event—plus my top tips to help your family have an amazing experience!
What is Rock the Universe?
Rock the Universe is an annual Christian music festival held at Universal Studios Florida, featuring top Christian artists, worship services, and access to the park’s attractions. Here’s what you can expect:
🎶 Live concerts on three different stages throughout the night.
🙌 Powerful worship moments, including a Sunday morning service.
🎢 Access to Universal Studios rides during the event.
🤝 Meet & greets with select artists (very limited availability).
When: Typically held over a weekend in late January.
Where: Universal Studios Florida.
Ticket Info: Requires a separate event ticket; day admission does not include Rock the Universe. There are different types of tickets available - single night event tickets, two-night event tickets and weekend tickets that include daytime access to the parks.
Timing: Rock the Unvierse ticket holders can enter the Universal Studios gates at 4 p.m. They will receive a wristband for the evening. Regular day guests are asked to leave by 6 p.m. Concerts typically run 7:30 pm - 12:30 am.
Live Concert Stages: What to Expect
Rock the Universe features three stages with performances happening simultaneously. Here’s what you need to know:
Music Plaza Stage
This is the largest stage and hosts the biggest artists of the festival. Expect massive crowds—some fans camp out all night to secure their spot. If you want a more relaxed experience, look for side viewing areas or farther-back spots where you can still see the artist on big screens. Previous performers included Brandon Lake, Matthew West, Forrest Frank and Elevation Rythm.
Hollywood Stage
A mid-range stage with a more manageable crowd, but it can still feel packed. If you’re looking to avoid overwhelming crowds, try standing toward the back or near the edges for a better experience. If you want to see artists performing here we do recommend grabbing a spot an hour in advanced if you want to be up close! Past artists on this stage included Caleb Gordon, KB, and Josiah Queen.
Coca-Cola Fan Zone
This stage is smaller and offers a more intimate experience, great for families looking for a calmer environment while still enjoying live music. These are typically up-and-coming newer artists, and you can get up close without feeling claustrophobic. This is the most family-friendly stage. You can often get a good spot to see the artists any time!
When to Start Planning
Tickets for Rock the Universe tend to sell out! Planning at least 3-6 months in advance ensures you can secure the best options for your family. Here’s a general timeline to help:
6 Months Before: Decide on dates, budget, and accommodations.
3-6 Months Before: Book a Rock the Universe vacation with a trusted travel advisor and consider Express Passes for daytime park visits.
1-2 Months Before: Research concert schedules and create a rough itinerary.
2 Weeks Before: Pack essentials and finalize your game plan.
Don’t Try to Do It All in One Day
If you have a day ticket, be realistic—it’s exhausting to do the parks all day and stay late for the concerts. I recommend attending both days and splitting your visit: do rides one day and attend Rock the Universe on another. If you want to attempt to do both, consider getting an Express Pass to maximize rides.
Note: Regular Express Passes (including those complimentary with Premier hotels) do not work during the event. Event-specific Express Passes are available but often unnecessary since ride lines are shorter at night.
Pick a Meetup Spot Before Splitting Up
If your group plans to separate, choose a designated meeting point in advance. Avoid the stage areas (too chaotic)—instead, pick locations like:
✅ Under the Universal globe. ✅ Near the entrance fountain. ✅ Outside a specific restaurant.
Take Breaks When Needed
Loud music, big crowds, and late nights can be overwhelming, especially for younger kids. Good break spots include Central Park and Simpson’s Area, away from the concert crowds.
Pack Smart 🎒
Must-haves for the night:
Portable charger (you’ll be using your phone a lot!).
Refillable water bottle to stay hydrated.
Earplugs or noise-canceling headphones for younger kids.
Snacks ( granola bars, protein snacks, etc.) to avoid waiting in long lines for greasy pizza.
Have an Exit Strategy
Leaving with thousands of people at once can be a nightmare. Plan ahead to avoid the worst of the crowd:
Head out 10-15 minutes before the final song to beat the rush.
If staying at a Universal on-site resort, walk instead of waiting for a water taxi.
If driving, hang around City Walk while the crowds move through. Otherwise you may be sitting for a while!
Get Your Merch Early
Exclusive Rock the Universe t-shirts and band merch sell out fast. These are available in the New York section of the park, where meet & greets also take place. If there’s a specific item you want, buy it as early as possible!
